Grass, Trees and River Ground in Kingwood
Hydroseeding in Kingwood starts with the trees. Kingwood's Wikipedia page describes a 14,000-acre master-planned community in the piney woods of southeast Texas, sold since 1971 as "The Livable Forest," with more than 15,000 acres counted in nature preserves and parks. Part of the tract belonged to the Foster Lumber Company, and the Foster family had held the land since about 1892 before selling it for development in 1967. Most yards here are cut out of forest, so sunlight, roots and pine litter decide what will grow.
Light is the first question
Many Kingwood lawns get only a few hours of direct sun. Before we price a job we look at where the light falls and when. Sunny front yards can take a standard warm-season seed. Back yards under a full canopy may only support a shade-tolerant grass in the brighter spots, with mulch beds under the heaviest shade. We would rather tell you that up front than spray seed that thins out by fall.
Harvey and the river
Kingwood sits on the east fork of the San Jacinto River. In 2017 the community suffered evacuations and severe flooding after Hurricane Harvey, made worse by water released from upstream floodgates. Many yards near the river were stripped, buried in silt or torn up during rebuilds. Lawn recovery in those neighborhoods usually means removing flood deposits, regrading low spots and reseeding in sections as remodel crews finish.
Lake Houston frontage
At the south end of Woodland Hills Drive, River Grove Park covers 74 acres with a boat ramp onto Lake Houston. Lake Houston is the city of Houston's main water supply, so soil from Kingwood construction sites should stay on the lot. We put silt fence on the downhill side of remodels and new builds and seed disturbed ground promptly.
Still building
Kingwood is close to built out, but new homes are still going up in Royal Shores and Woodridge Forest. Those lots need tree-friendly grading and seed that suits partial shade from the start.

Kingwood Questions
How much sun does hydroseed need in Kingwood?
Most warm-season grasses want at least several hours of direct sun. Under full canopy we suggest shade-tolerant seed in brighter spots and mulch beds under the heaviest shade.
Our yard flooded in Harvey and never recovered. Where do we start?
Remove leftover silt and debris, fix low spots and add topsoil, then reseed. We can do it in stages if repairs are still going on.
Do you seed new homes in Royal Shores or Woodridge Forest?
Yes. We grade carefully around kept trees and match seed to the light on each part of the lot.
Should I rake pine needles before seeding?
Yes. A layer of needles blocks seed contact with soil. Keep it raked while the grass gets established.
